Responses To Communism Within Australia
Within Australia Robert Menzies was a great hope for the anti-communists for he had been able to support for himself and his party. As communism began to spread through Asia like an unstoppable disease as you can see in the image aside. Although Menzies had made his promise saying the following:
The communist are the most unscruplous opponents of religion, of civillized
government, of law and order, of national security... Communism in Australia is
an alien and destructive pest. if elected we shall outlaw it.
Although most of Menzies's promises were broken and untrue he had still made it through the election and because he was the only hope for Communism not spreading into Australia. At this time there were many broken promises made by the Labor Party involving the threat of communism but Menzies was still able to stop it from spreading within Australia with the help of the US. The world was quickly falling under communist control and this is were Robert Menzies made his desicions saying "Outlaw it" meaning 'outlaw the Communist Party of Australia' (CPA). At this moment the (CPA) was a the Legal Party in Australia. When Menzies was elected Prime Minister he introduced the new bill into Federal Parliament in 1950. It was known as the Anti-Red Bill which would have been able to outlaw the CPA" and prevented communists from being empolyed in a semi-government institution or holding any official position.
